Binabar Language Teaching Books.

Lenny and the Big Red Bag.

This story “Lenny and the Big Red Bag” has been written so that it can be reprinted for any language. The target group for this book is early primary school.

Awabakal Language, Lenny cover

Each page of the book contains three or four of the subject language words, worked into a mostly English poem format. It also contains a list of around 50 related words with English translation in the back of the book.

The book contains orthography notes to assist with pronunciation.

A client wishing to have the book produced in a new language will email Binabar Books the list of appropriate words to change within the story as well as any words they would like to select for the additional list in the back of the book. The client will also provide orthography notes for the front of the book.

Some changes can be made to the text to adapt to words of different lengths and maintain the rhythm.

For example:

“A munjun underneath so he put it in the kinan” Could change to “A bunjunda there so he put it in the kinan”

For topical relevance “Gum tree” could be changed to “fir tree”!

“Lenny and the Big Red Bag” has been set to music and can be easily played on guitar or piano.

Parts of the Body.

A second book, which is near completion lets us teach the parts of the body. This will be available in August 2010.

Printing in sound.

The books can be printed with or without sound and the Audio Readers supplied if necessary.

If printing with sound the cost will be slightly higher per book.

The buyer records the book being read by their chosen speaker. An mp3 file of this recording is emailed to Binabar and the sound files prepared for the Audio Readers. You may find that your local community radio station or high school will be willing to help with this recording.

A minimum order would be for 150 books although costs per book drop significantly with larger print runs.
